Tahlia Petrosian - Viola

Tahlia Petrosian is an internationally acclaimed Australian violist, creative producer and cultural innovator, recognised for her dynamic career as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player and artistic leader. She is widely regarded for her commitment to reimagining how classical music is performed, presented and experienced in the contemporary world.

As a performer, Tahlia has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician in many of the world’s leading venues, including Wigmore Hall in London, the Sydney Opera House, the Semperoper Dresden, the Berliner Philharmonie, the Gewandhaus Leipzig and the Tanglewood Music Center. She has collaborated with distinguished musicians such as Leif Ove Andsnes, Joshua Bell, Gautier Capuçon, Leonidas Kavakos and Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider.

Tahlia studied with renowned violists Tabea Zimmermann and Wilfried Strehle in Berlin, where she developed a distinctive artistic voice grounded in musical depth, intellectual curiosity and collaboration. Her work has been recognised with numerous awards and scholarships, including an Artist Development Award from the Australia Council, the Australian Music Foundation Prize in London, awards from the Paul Hindemith Gesellschaft in Berlin, a DAAD scholarship, and support from the Dame Joan Sutherland Fund in New York.

Since 2012, Tahlia has been a member of the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, one of the world’s most historic orchestras, and she also performs regularly with the Australian World Orchestra. Alongside her performing career, she is a committed educator and mentor, having taught at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and the Australian National Academy of Music.

In 2016, Tahlia founded KLASSIK underground, an innovative concert series that presents classical music in unconventional spaces and collaborative formats, integrating other art forms such as dance, theatre, street art and film. The project has featured collaborations with artists including Anne-Sophie Mutter, Joshua Bell, Andris Nelsons, Jean-Yves Thibaudet and Jörg Widmann, and has been profiled by international media including The Financial Review, The Japan Times and Travel + Leisure.

In addition to her performance and curatorial work, Tahlia has been active as a Creative Producer, including her role at international music agency HarrisonParrott in London, where she developed special projects for institutions such as Tate Modern, the BBC and London’s Southbank Centre. Her work reflects a strong belief in artistic collaboration, creative leadership and the evolving role of classical music in contemporary culture.
